Alaska Boots for Chelsea

Selected for Battle of the Books for Statewide School Districts in 2019

img_0048Alaska Boots for Chelsea is a wonderful tale about a young girl and her loving grandmother who sews traditional Athabascan winter boots. In this story, Chelsea learns a lesson when her boots are ruined and realizes the  importance of listening to her elders. Each page is filled with beautiful watercolor illustrations featuring Alaska animals throughout the story.

Comment from an ASD Librarian:

“Your book was beautifully illustrated. In a few pages it teaches volumes about Athabascan culture and craftsmanship. I especially appreciated the added information about and Alaskan wildlife. The story is clear and easy to understand, the message profound. Very effective for our Alaskan cultures curriculm.”
